Mehriban Efendi

Senior Partner, Qualified Patent/Trademark Attorney

Mehriban has more than 15 years’ experience in intellectual property, corporate, banking, finance and tax legislation advising the biggest international and local firms. In intellectual property area Mehriban has significant experience in advising in all aspects of trade mark work from registration issues through to matters of an enforcement nature. In addition to her expertise in handling trade mark issues in CIS jurisdictions, Mehriban’s background as a commercial litigator is invaluable in her conduct of contentious trade mark proceedings and in negotiating the settlement of such proceedings.

Mehriban also worked for many years in the  banking sector, providing legal services to local and foreign high street banks and was responsible for the legal aspects of everyday activity of the banks, providing legal opinions on the legality, validity and enforceability of loan documentation; providing advice on various legal and regulatory matters related to loan agreements; interacting with relevant state bodies, including authorisations and permits required; acting as a legal advisor in all tax issues; and reviewing project and finance documents.

Transactions of significance where substantial involvement can be disclosed have included:

OTP Bank – assisting Linklaters law firm with the due diligence and documentation in relation to the proposed acquisition of a majority shareholding in the second largest commercial bank in Azerbaijan;

Credit Suisse – advising Credit Suisse as to permissible banking and investment activities and services which can be carried on or provided by CS Switzerland with or for Azerbaijani clients. Providing advice on license requirements for participants of security market in the Azerbaijan Republic;

World Bank – Advising the World Bank Group (Financial and Private Sector, Washington DC) in relation to Doing Business 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009 annual series of reports;

Morgan Stanley – Advising Morgan Stanley’s Dublin-based liquidity fund in relation to loan issue for institutional investor in the Azerbaijan Republic;

Tamilla Eldar

Partner

She has considerable experience in advising a broad range of clients, including big corporations, in the development, management and protection of their trade mark portfolios. She advises on the selection of marks, trade mark searches and strategic filing. She has extensive experience of litigation work and has also been involved in the collection and preparation of evidence. She acts for many household names, from major retailers to food manufacturers.

Ali Huseynov

Partner

Prior to joining Efendi Law & IP Consultancy in 2010 Ali spent more than 8 years running his own successful legal practice. He frequently advises on trade mark portfolio management, strategy and licensing, and related matters. He specialises in clearance searches and the filing and prosecution of trade mark applications. Ali has substantial experience in relation to commercial litigation, including consultation on case strategy, preparing evidence, and taking oral hearings. He also advises clients in a broad range of transactional matters, including mergers, dispositions and acquisitions, commercial contract issues, trademark prosecution, copyright, licensing and media.

Aleksandr Vasiljev

Aleksandr is an associate in the litigation group. His  practice emphasizes intellectual property litigation, including patent and trade secret litigation as well as antitrust litigation in cases involving intellectual property rights.

Fariz Azizov

Senior Associate/IP lawyer

Fariz Azizov’s practice focuses on complex business litigation. He has experience representing various clients in relation to unfair business practices and a variety of relevant business disputes in different court instances. He is experienced in all aspects of trade mark work and advises frequently on contentious issues, providing enforcement advices. Additionally, Fariz conducts due diligence in connection with equity investments, mergers, acquisitions and dispositions. He also advises clients on general business matters.

Vladimir Butenko

Associate

He handles both contentious and non-contentious matters. His practice ranges from advising on intellectual property rights (including trade marks, copyright and confidential information) to commercial contracts and licensing. Vladimir has experience in dealing with counterfeit goods, working with the State Customs Committee. He provides an advice to large companies in the food, drink and pharmaceutical industries.

Daria Mitskevich

Trademark administrator

Daria works within the firm’s international department and shares responsibility for dealing with daily incoming post and faxes; weekly management of diary system entries and updates; new applications; setting up new files on the system; preparation of daily filing reports; and generation of portfolio reports.

She is currently preparing towards qualifying as a trade mark attorney.

Irada Suleymanova

Trademark administrator

Irada has a responsibility for all aspects of trade mark formalities and administration within the firm’s international department. She has particular responsibility for trade mark renewals in addition to general fee earner support.

She is currently preparing towards qualifying as a patent attorney.

Gunel Aslan

Trademark administrator

Gunel provides all required assistance to fee earners in relation to trademark prosecution, opposition and cancellation proceedings. She drafts all necessary documentation for filing them to the Appeal Commission of the Patent & Trademark Office or to the Courts.

Behruz Iskenderli

Renewals Manager

Behruz deals with daily incoming post and faxes; weekly management of diary system entries and updates; new applications; setting up new files on the system; preparation of daily filing reports; and generation of portfolio reports. On the trade mark side, Behruz handles new filings, registration formalities and all other stages of the trade mark cycle.

Igor Boyko

IT Manager

Igor works at the IT and Communications department and is responsible for the day-to-day maintenance of the firm’s computer systems, handling all aspects of hardware, software and network support. Igor joined the firm in 2006 having spent fifteen years previously in the computer industry.
